Accountability/Where Are We Going?: June 2021

A few days late, as per usual. But, alas, here it goes. What’s happening? Well, Stuart is off of the ship! Life in June of 2021 in some ways is totally different than June 2020. Last year we were playing the waiting game as to when Stuart would get off the ship and the date changed about a million times. This year he got off the ship one day before when his contract was meant to end. Go figure.

Vermont life has been quite busy so I was pretty lazy on the blog. I would say that’s okay but I feel like it’s right on the verge of being what I will consider successful. I got an affiliate sale through EarthBreeze (affiliate link) which pretty much made me feel like I should keep going with this blog. This blog takes a fair bit of work and at some point I want to legitimately make money off of it, so thank you to whoever ordered it. I hope you love it and it makes your life a little more convenient. P.S. Interested? Take a look at this post and feel free to order some.

But, alas, back to the questions at hand: I am in the United Kingdom right now! It worked out to be easier for us as a couple for me to head to Scotland at the end of Stuart’s contract versus him flying to the United States. I had to do a 10 day quarantine at home, plus two COVID tests on day 2 and day 8 of my quarantine and have a negative PCR test before I could fly. Flying internationally right now is complicated. It’s not easy going nearly any direction. It is such a contrast to when I flew in May domestically. (Did I tell you guys that I went on a road trip from North Carolina to Oregon with my college roommate …and her two horses and dog? I should probably write you guys a post about that.)

So, what’s happening? Potentially so much. In the meantime though, I am going to keep my eyes on the prize and keep going forward.

Where Are We Going?:

I am in England right now! Confused? Understandable when my husband is from Scotland. Part of his job is keeping all of his certifications up to date and he had to do a course in Southampton, England to renew one of his certifications. As Southampton is basically the cruise ship capital of the world right now (though the US is starting up in a big way this month), I figured I would come with him. Also, we’ve now found an insurance company that will insure me on the car over here even though I’m not a resident. You don’t think about all of those complicated parts of a life between borders ahead of time but there are so many parts that are complicated like that.

We will be in Scotland later in the week after his course is done, and then we shall have to wait and see from there. We have some other potential plans happening but want to finalize them before I put it all out there for the world to see.

Accountability:

Let’s see how I did… I feel like I’m getting better at getting back to it and prioritizing what I actually want to do and accomplish and not some obligatory list of what I think I should be getting done.

Goals for June:

  • Actually film at least one more YouTube video.
    • I filmed two – and then half of the plan for Alaskan videos changed. I posted one. The Alaskan one was scrapped, but I have a new video nearly done being edited that will go up shortly. Keeping this goal for July – at least one more up. P.S. My World Cruise video is up to over 5,000 views. Go figure!
  • Post 6 blog posts
    • Four blog posts went up in June, but I think at least a few of them were pretty quality posts so I am okay with that. Keeping the goal of 6 for this month.
  • Grandma time
    • Well, I am currently in another country but did pretty well with this before I left. I need to do better about calling her while I’m out of town though.
  • Make more time for walks with friends.
    • Scottish edition is largely just finding friends and visiting them and it’s going well! Since being out of isolation we have been rocking the friends thing.
  • Read a book
    • Hard fail at this, though my friend gave me a book by Liane Moriarty (affiliate) that I have started and her books tend to be very good. She also wrote “Big Little Lies” that was turned into an HBO show.
  • Better boundaries with work
    • I had this on the list for May. I got slightly better with this? Anyways, I’m in another country now so I would say I’ve got those boundaries figured out.
  • Finish painting the house.
    • There is like the tiniest bit of trim that still needs to get painted but otherwise I finished this one!

Goals for July:

  • Film and post a YouTube video. Apparently I can start monetizing that once I get 1,000 subscribers. I currently have 67. Feel free to pop over to YouTube and subscribe to me (and then also give me some ideas of new videos to post!)
  • Post 6 blog posts
  • Keep in touch with my family in Vermont better while I am in Scotland
  • Walk with friends
  • Read books!

What are your goals for July?

  1. I’m so glad your husband is home. As a retired Marine, I can seriously appreciate those special moments that happen when he gets back home after months away. And I admire your goals, but you don’t feel like you “fail” at any of them. You’re winning by making a monthly list and working at it. Just call your grandma. Lol
