Laundry Detergent Sheets for Travel: EarthBreeze Review

I don’t enjoy packing. Much less – my packing often involves going to a cruise ship for months at a time. Packing everything I need for months of life into a suitcase and a carryon is a challenge – and anything I can find that makes that easier is a win. That’s why I made the switch to laundry detergent sheets – and specifically Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent sheets. They have made my traveling life so much easier. Being able to fit enough laundry detergent for up to 60 loads in a small envelope inside my suitcase (and not weighing a ton) has been wonderful! This is now my go to travel laundry detergent. And in my opinion – laundry detergent sheets for travel are a thing and are here to stay.

And, while for me the huge benefit is how great these laundry detergent sheets are for travel, a bonus for everyone is that they’re better for the environment, is a sustainable product, and reduce your plastic footprint.

Please note that I do use this product in my home and love it to the point that my husband brought it on his last cruise ship contract, my mom uses it, as does several cousins, and my in-laws have some for their next cruise.

What Are Laundry Detergent Sheets?

Pretty much looks like paper.

Laundry detergent sheets are basically dehydrated or liquidless laundry detergent that kind of looks like a piece of paper. The sheets are pre-portioned for a typical load of laundry which gives you a similar ease of use to laundry pods – but takes up less space and is won’t explode all over your suitcase in a disastrous mess. The liquidless part of these sheets is part of what makes this the best laundry detergent for travel.

One pre-portioned sheet is approximately 3 inches tall by 4 inches wide. You simply put them in the machine (or in the laundry detergent holder, depending on the machine) and it dissolves completely during the wash.

Laundry Detergent Sheets

Regardless of what kind of travel I am doing I’ve found that having some laundry detergent with you can be a lifesaver. You never know when you will need to hand wash something – you slip and fall and get your favorite shirt covered in mud, you spill a drink on it, someone spills a drink on you – whatever it is, you need to hand wash some items in the sink at the hotel mid-trip. Perhaps you are staying somewhere with a washer available. Regardless, traveling with some laundry detergent is always recommended. These laundry detergent sheets are a great option for travel whether you are traveling for a couple days, a week, or even longer.

I have used these sheets as my regular go-to laundry detergent (whether traveling or at home) and have used them in top-load washers as well as newer front-load styles. I also have several sweaters that I hand wash only and for those I will just rip off a little bit of the degergent sheet, it suds up nicely in the water and has my sweaters looking, feeling, and smelling great.

Fun side bonus – I’ve actually used them to clean a stain out of carpet. Worked like a charm.

Save yourself some luggage space and some plastic and pack a few of these in your toiletry kit.

And, not only do these laundry sheets save space, they are so much less messy! They aren’t liquid and they aren’t powdered – meaning the bag they’re in won’t accidentally explode and leave laundry detergent all of your bag – which is annoying if it’s powdered and a complete pain if it’s liquid. Plus, for my never-check-a-bag-friends, easy peasy to pop into your carry-on and not-liquid so no need to take up space in your bag of liquids.

Best Travel Laundry Detergent – Especially for Those In the Travel Industry

These laundry detergent sheets are such a game changer when it comes to travel. As a cruise ship crew member I am packing months of life into a couple suitcases. For those new to ships I would typically recommend when joining a cruise ship for a crew contract to bring toiletry supplies (including laundry detergent) only for the first couple of weeks and then plan on going ashore to get more. The reason for this largely has to do with how much space it takes up, the risk of any liquid items exploding or otherwise leaking on your things, and the weight it adds to the luggage.

And, while they sell these toiletry items in the crew store onboard, there isn’t usually a great selection and it’s normally packaged more in “travel size” portions. Buying in travel sizes can both get quite expensive and tends to be super wasteful for packaging.

So, going ashore a few weeks into the contract to do a supply run is kind of standard. However, I am all about things that make life easier. Not having to spend precious shore-time to go shopping for toiletry items and then bring them back to the ship? Kind of priceless.

Why are these the best laundry detergent for travel? These laundry sheets are light, compact, and mess free so that packing three months worth of laundry detergent takes up less space than a very short average sized book. While working onboard I found that I usually did one load of laundry per week (as most of the time I was wearing a uniform which I get sent out to be washed), so for three months I would pack on average 20 laundry pods (some extra for ease of use). Now, instead it’s easy eco-sheet liquidless laundry detergent from Earth Breeze to the rescue. Easier to use and less plastic waste!

A Plastic Free More Environmentally Friendly Choice

Not only are these my go to travel laundry detergent sheets as they are a game changer for packing, they are a more environmentally friendly product. From compostable non-plastic packaging, to less and smaller packaging – which means more can be transported with less of an environmental footprint, they are also paraben, phosphate, and pthalate free.

…And, EarthBreeze Strives to Do Good In the World!

While the product itself is environmentally friendly, the company is involved with a whole host of environmentally friendly and ethical practices.

These include things like planting trees, working with reforestation efforts, and being carbon-neutral. In addition for every package of laundry sheets they sell they donate ten laundry sheets (or ten loads of laundry) to a cause of your choice. It was such a fun surprise after I had made my purchase to get to a screen asking where I wanted to donate to. They partner with women’s shelters, veterans organizations, homeless shelters, developing countries, and more. It’s nice to think that not only is your purchase making an environmental impact, but it will also help someone that may otherwise struggle to have clean clothes be able to have that need met.

That’s Great, But Do Laundry Detergent Sheets Work?

60 loads vs 42 loads

I have been using these eco-sheets in my home for a little over two months now and I love them. They clean as well as any traditional laundry detergent that I have used, has been gentle on my sensitive skin, and takes up way less space on the laundry shelf.

On each package it indicates how many sheets you should use for different types of loads. Most often one sheet, but for a small load a half sheet might be recommended and for a particularly soiled load they would recommend two. I have also on a particularly full load put two in just in case. Thus far those recommendations have been on point and our clothes have come out clean. I should also note that in my home life I often help out on my brother’s farm – these laundry detergent sheets have worked well even on my barn clothes.

I also find it nice that they have a fragrance free option and a fresh scent option. Some people don’t particularly like the smell that comes with most laundry detergents so, if you aren’t partial to the smell of laundry detergent – they have a great solution for that.

Where Can I Buy EarthBreeze Eco-Sheets?

Laundry detergent sheets are delivered right to your mailbox.

Where can you buy EarthBreeze Eco-Sheets? They are available to order online and they literally ship to your mailbox. Not a package that gets left on your front door – they come in a manila envelope and easily fit in a standard size mailbox.

In addition you can order them as a subscription. Meaning that you can have these sheets delivered at whatever interval works best for you and your family. Options range between once a month up to once every four months.

Not into subscriptions? That’s okay, too. Sometimes I hate signing up for a subscription because then I forget to cancel it an alas it’s money down the drain. They have just regular, one off ordering, too.

The biggest downside I’ve found is that if you want to cancel your subscription or edit it’s regularity you click on “Account” and then have to send a message in versus having an interactive console to use. Honestly not a big deal and they are super responsive, just not quite how I’m used to managing subscriptions.

Bonus: Earth Breeze Ships Internationally

While Earth Breeze is a US based company (headquartered in Oregon), they offer free carbon-neutral shipping within the United States and internationally! Woohoo! I have tried this as well – getting it sent to the United Kingdom – and it works beautifully. Came right through the letter box on the front door easy peasey.

This is another reason why this is a great travel laundry detergent! If you didn’t pack enough laundry detergent you could have some sent to the ship – just put in the ships (most often homeport) address!

Laundry Detergent Sheets for Travel – A Huge Win

I am taking the wins wherever I can get them – especially when it has to do with packing – and these laundry detergent sheets are a win. Honestly, they are so light and easy to pack. Even if you aren’t traveling they take up so much less space in your home, and you can’t beat the convenience of having them delivered literally to your mailbox. No need to haul heavy containers of laundry detergent back and forth from the grocery store (or take up precious time on your time ashore). Order these online – sign up for a subscription (to have it delivered either once a month, every couple months – you decide and can cancel at any time) or just purchase it when you need it.

Take a look at their website, see how great their product is and how simple it is to get started reducing your waste (and space in your suitcase) by switching to EarthBreeze for both your travel laundry detergent – and your regular household laundry detergent, too.
