Where Are We Going/ Accountability: February 2021

Oh February, you pesky little month with only 28 days.

Oh Pandemic, you pesky little century of my life that just keeps going.

What are we going to do for jokes once this pandemic is over? In truth though, the pandemic is feeling a little less daunting to me lately. My grandma has gotten both her vaccine shots and my in-laws have gotten their first one. Hubby and I have made it through a whole host of logistical headaches (international job + international marriage + pandemic = all the logistical headaches), spring is solidly on the way and maybe life is going to head towards a good direction? Of course then my husband has to go to work and we won’t see each other for 3 months…so that part stinks.

And, while the pandemic might be seeming like there could be light at the end of the tunnel my motivation – specifically towards this blog – really struggled this month. Last week I struggled to write so much. I suddenly found myself in the realm of doubting whether each blog post I was going to publish was good enough. I have one blog post that is “ranking” on Google. If you search for “cruise ship officer ranks” I have a post that comes up on page 2 of Google. Super exciting. But, now I’m like, “how do I do that again?”. And, as a sub part of that I also only made one YouTube video – down from my goal of two per month.

But, Happy Monday morning, one day late, but dang it, we’re back to it.

February absolutely flew by. One day it was just beginning and now suddenly it’s over. My typical “accountability” section is dismal, but alas, that is okay! The world seems to continue spinning. And, this month I would like to say I was doing more important things like helping out my grandma or going skating when the opportunity arose. What is that saying, “life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans?”

Where Are We Going?:

Well, I am going to be staying put in Vermont for the foreseeable future. This will actually end up being the longest stretch that I have been in Vermont since 2015 (I think). I am definitely looking forward to the home time but not looking forward to the time away from my hubby.

My darling husband is due to go back to work mid-March. I am not able to go with him onboard right now so that will mean three months apart. That part will seriously stink, but with my current optimism of “light at the end of the tunnel” I am hopeful that I will be sail onboard again with him at some point in the (somewhat) near future.

Accountability:

Drumroll for the lack of check marks in this section…

  • Finish at least one online course per month. ish
    • Not really… not an official one. I did find a blogger that does online videos about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). She would be completely disgusted by this blog post that isn’t about a keyword that I could “rank” with on Google.
  • Read one book per month.
    • Nope. I picked one and tried to get into it (and it’s a best seller, too), but goodness I couldn’t. Goal for March will be to finish 2 books to even it out.
  • Post at least 10 blog posts each month.
    • Not even remotely close to this one.
    • 6 blog posts + one updated post + one YouTube video
  • Video chat with at least one friend per week
    • Calling this a success. There’s been variations on it – playing Mario Kart, doing an online mystery game, going for an in-person outdoor walk. The point of this goal is to keep in touch with friends and overall I’ve been doing good.
  • Keep in touch with family.
    • Definite success on this one (and this one and the friends one are the most important ones there are)
  • Get a press handstand
    • No, but I have started doing random gymnastics challenge videos with the kids of some family friends. They are so much more bendy than I am but it’s been a really fun challenge and a great way to keep moving, stretching, bending, and strengthening my body.
  • Take a French lesson every once in awhile
    • Non. Je veux faire plus en Mars. 🙁
