Holland America Grand Voyages 2024-2026

affiliate disclosure

If you are looking at an immersive journey, Holland America Grand Voyages will take you around the world and back again.

Holland America Line has the best itineraries (in my opinion) of any premium mainstream cruise line. Their itineraries range from just a few nights all the way up to a 133 Night Pole to Pole Grand Voyage and 128 night Grand World Voyage and have nearly everything in between. Among the highlights of their incredible itineraries are the Grand Voyages.

These Grand Voyages will take you around the world, around a continent, across oceans and to the wonders of the world. They’ll bring you to Antarctica, Norway, Europe, South America for Carnivale, Australia to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, China to climb the Great Wall and everywhere in between.

Holland America Grand Voyages

A Grand Voyage is a designation that Holland America Line gives certain voyages. The voyages given this designation are always comprehensive itineraries spanning for several months. These itineraries will include multiple overnight stays, late sails, and are truly a grand adventure.

The ships will have guest lecturers come onboard as well as cultural ambassadors. There are also often “grand” events such as elegant balls, and events ashore. Holland America Line also offers a type of voyage they call Legendary Voyages which are usually still quite itinerary intensive but aren’t quite as long – lasting usually between a month and two months.

How Much Does a Grand Voyage Cost?

Grand Voyages range in price depending on which itinerary you choose, when you book it, as well as which stateroom category you select. There are often early booking benefits (such as prepaid crew gratuities, luggage transfers, onboard spending credit, and internet packages just to name a few).

The voyages currently on sale range from a little over $13,000 all the way up to $110,000 for the Pinnacle Suite on the 2024 Grand World Voyage. (That one might be a bit out of my price range!)

How long are Grand Voyages?

Grand Voyages are typically at least 3 months long but they tend to be longer. From 2024-2026 Grand Voyages with Holland America Line range from 93 nights to 133 nights with an average length of 120.5 nights.

The shortest of them is a 93 night Grand Australia and New Zealand, complete with a circumnavigation of Australia.

The longest is the Pole to Pole voyage at 133 nights, going to both the Arctic and Antarctic.

Can I Sail Just Part of a Grand Voyage?

These itineraries are often offered in “segments”. A segment just means it is only part of the itinerary. Often for 30-40 days. A segment of an itinerary is great for someone that wants to try out a Grand Voyage or simply really enjoys a particular itinerary but for whatever reason can’t or doesn’t want to do the full voyage.

What are the current options?

Grand Voyages – and World Cruises in particular – often sell out quickly. Many cruise lines will nearly sell out their World Cruise just from past guest bookings. It’s wild how quick they can sell out.

The current Grand Voyages of Holland America are:

  • Grand World Voyage, 128 nights, Zuiderdam (2025)
  • Grand Pole to Pole, 133 nights, Volendam (2025)
  • Grand World Voyage, 132 nights, Volendam (2026)
  • Grand Australia and New Zealand, 93 nights, Zaandam (sailing in 2026)

Annual World Cruise

Each year Holland America sails a World Cruise. The World Cruise is offered roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida – in 2025 on their Vista class ship, the Zuiderdam. The Zuiderdam was built in the panamax style – long and sleek to fit through the old panama canal. This design style boasts extensive verandah and ocean view staterooms.

In 2026 Holland America will be shifting their World Cruise to the Volendam, one of their remaining R-Class ships. This ship is smaller at only about 1,500 passengers (1,300 and change double occupancy up to over 1,600 with third and forth berths). The big change for guests with the move to this ship is that there is considerably fewer cabins with balconies and the most basic stateroom with a balcony onboard is a Vista suite.

The itinerary for the World Cruise change every year which always leads to exciting new ports even for repeat Holland America World Cruises guests.

Holland America Line 2025 Grand World Voyage

Highlights of the 2025 itinerary include a stop in Easter Island, Australia, Africa, both a Panama Canal and Suez Canal transit, stops in Egypt and the Mediterranean.

Personal note from the author: 2024 World Cruises transiting the Suez Canal rerouted to avoid political unrest in this area. My guess is that will continue in 2025 with an itinerary change. On World Cruises when situations like this happen, the voyage doesn’t get shortened, it just gets adjusted!

Prices starting around $30,900.

What is the average age on Holland America cruises?

The average age onboard Holland America is 57 years old. The demographic is consistently getting younger and younger thanks to efforts by the cruise line to encourage families to cruise including sometimes offering Kids Sail Free promotions.

You can expect younger passengers as well as more children on the shorter cruises in the Caribbean, Alaska, and Mexico. You can also expect more children and younger passengers on cruises happening over the holidays such as Christmas and New Years.

There are also typically more children on the larger ships of Holland America as they have more facilities for families with some even including family staterooms onboard.

Longer cruises of multiple weeks tend to have slightly older passengers.

On the longest cruises Holland America offers, such as the Grand World Voyages, you would be surprised to find a heavy mix of ages. While you won’t find many children onboard, there are many early retirees and it’s becoming more common to find some working-age folks taking advantage of options for remote work or traditionally remote work, like authors.

Where does Holland America rank in cruise lines?

They are considered a premium cruise line. Their counterparts and most direct competition is from Princess Cruises (a sister cruise line) and Celebrity Cruises.

They would be considered a notch above lines such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian, but below luxury lines like Oceania and Viking.

Conclusion: Holland America Grand Voyages

Holland America Grand Voyages give you an opportunity to sail to the ends of the earth all from the continental United States. The ship and guests become your home away from home and you’ll get to see places you only ever dreamed of.
