Here’s a deeper dive into the itinerary options:
Canada/New England Cruises
Cruising out of Boston the most popular are by-far the Canada/New England cruises. While the arguably busiest time for these cruises is in the fall for foliage – think mid to end of September and the early October sailings – they have plenty to offer throughout the whole season.
Most Popular: One-Way, 7 day Itineraries
Offered from Boston to either Montreal (on Volendam) or Quebec City (on Zuiderdam), these one week cruises typically visit either Portland or Eastport, Maine, Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.
There are also a couple longer one-way itineraries visiting Newfoundland. They can often be combined with other sailings to make a roundtrip itinerary.
These sailings are offered throughout the season.
Pro Tip:
Go northbound from Boston! The reason? You won’t have to clear immigration in your US port giving you more time in either Portland or Eastport. Otherwise, going southbound you’ll need to do immigration before going ashore on that last port.

There are a couple of one-way itineraries that are worth singling out as they feature a few different ports than you’ll usually find on the Canada/New England cruise. Either of these itineraries could be a great option for those wanting to explore some more ports in the region still on a week-long itinerary.
This 7-Day Canada & New England: Montreal, Maritimes & Maine sailing in mid-September sails from Montreal south to Boston. While it has stops in the regular ports of Halifax and Quebec City, it also stops in three ports that you don’t see too often on these itineraries. Cap-aux-Meules, Iles de la Madeleine, Quebec, Saint John, New Brunswick and Eastport, ME, US
This 7-Day Canada & New England: Unesco Sites & Quebecois Nights starts in Quebec City making it’s way south and stops in Saguenay, Quebec – which features some really great scenic cruising to get to and from the port – as well as Cap-aux-Meules, Iles de la Madeleine, Quebec.
One-Way with Newfoundland
There are a couple of longer-than-a-week itineraries, offered one way between Boston and Montreal or Montreal and Boston. They give you just a few more ports to explore in this region each including three ports in Newfoundland.

The Voyage of the Vikings is already a special and sought after itinerary – but in 2026 it is going to be on the path of a complete solar eclipse.
I was able to see a full solar eclipse in 2024 and it was incredible. Witnessing it from the ship will be even more incredible as you can get into the exact path of totality.
